Starting from today, February 6th, Cal Poly Pomona's residence halls are in a three-week long competition against each others and other universities nationwide to see who can reduce the most energy and water usage. Residents are reminded to turn off their lights and take a shorter shower in order to surpass our previous success last year with a total saving of 10,700 kWh and at the same time placing first out of all California participants! Well? What are you waiting for? Get out there and start saving some energy! (and water as well!)

The 8th Annual 2012 Energy Efficiency Summit

It is that time again, the 8th annual 2012 Energy Efficiency Summit! On January 28-30, Green Campus interns from 16 different universities and colleges are gathered together to discuss about sustainability, promote energy efficiency, and tackle major environmental issues. From UC San Deigo to Chico State University, campuses from all over California participated in the 3 days and 2 nights’ event at UC Berkeley. During the event, interns spent their time in training session on project planning, evaluation, marketing, and networking with professionals who have made a career in the energy field. SCE Event: Engage Our Energy Future

Despite the rainy weather on January 23rd, with the help from SCE, the Green Team and Green Campus, the SCE Event was able to proceed comfortably in the BSC. Many students who participated in the event were able to take part in the scavenger hunt designed to help students be more aware of energy savings opportunity. While the event was occurring, Green Campus interns were able to interact with students who are interested in saving energy by helping them sign up for the sustainability pledge sheet. Overall,despite the wet season, the SCE Event still manages to successfully reach out to many Cal Poly Pomona's students.

Engage Our Energy Future

On January 23rd at the University Park, join the Green Campus team, the Green Team, and Southern California Edison to learn more about energy efficiency through fun games and activities. Free food, gift cards and other prizes will be passed out during the main event, so come and join us right outside the BSC, on January 23rd starting at 10 AM!

Cal Poly Pomona Wins California Region in CCN!

At the conclusion of the Campus Conservation Nationals, Cal Poly Pomona took 15th in the national energy competition against 40 other universities. For the California region, our campus took first place with a 4.8% reduction. The Green Campus Program worked closely with University Housing Services to make this a success. On our campus, the Aliso residence hall won the campus level competition with a 12% reduction. Overall, the competition on our camspus saved over 10,700 kWh of energy. This is the same carbon emissions as 870 gallons of gasoline! (Source: EPA)

What is the Green Campus Program?

The Alliance to Save Energy's Green Campus Program is a student-led initiative that empowers tomorrow's energy efficiency leaders. The program is currently on 19 universities and colleges, engaging and training students to build pathways to green careers, realize measurable energy savings, infuse energy and energy efficiency concepts into academic curricula, and promote energy efficiency outreach.
